Keith Turley MA ARBSA...
Born in Birmingham, Keith had over thirty years` experience as a teacher of Art, before retiring to concentrate on painting. Alongside the job of teaching, the artist carried out numerous commissions, and exhibited regularly. Early successes included winning the Midlands Open 25, and the Sandwell Jubilee Medal. He also held one man shows at The Edgbaston New Art Gallery and the M.A.C., as well as being a regular exhibitor at MIDART.
In the mid nineties, Keith put on three exhibitions at the Hexagon Theatre Reading, which gave rise to a long relationship with The Heritage Foundation who honour late great showbusiness stars and also raise money for charity. The artist has carried out many portrait commissions for commemorative blue plaque events which have included such names as Tony Hancock, Eric Morecambe, Gracie Fields and Norman Wisdom. A sizable collection of this work is on permanent display at Pinewood Studios. This work still continues, and has extended into book illustration for such subjects as T.V.`s Dad`s Army, and the Carry On films. Many of these works were loaned for an exhibition at Himley Hall, Dudley.
Keith has made more time recently to explore portraiture in a more open ended way, and often on a large scale, featuring interesting environments. A number of such works have been featured in Friends and RBSA Open shows, including the Prize exhibitions of 2008(Highly Commended) 2009, 2010 and 2011. Many of these works featured in “Melange”, a three man show held at the RBSA, Dudley and Kidderminster.
Keith prefers to work in acrylics, but often overworks in oil. He is trying to move away from an “illustrative” approach to a more painterly style, and also enjoys experimenting with different ways of mark making. Though his favourite subjects are portraiture and figure painting, he also carries out numerous landscapes “in situ”.
Keith is a member of the Easel Club, The Birmingham Art Circle and is the programme secretary for the Dudley Society of Artists. He also delivers talks and portrait demonstrations to other artists groups
Keith is willing to consider commissions and would be very happy to discuss any requirements you may have.
